In the present, the creatures have killed much of Earth’s population, and father, Lee Abbott, sacrificed himself to save his remaining family – wife Evelyn, deaf daughter Regan, son Marcus, and their newborn baby. If it has any fault at all, it’s in the runtime which, IMHO, is a tad short. Overall, I rate it as good as the first installment, if not marginally better in places. Then it simply and effectively expands on the original. Where we were left wanting to see more in the first film. It starts almost exactly where it left off. Hostel, Eden Lake, and A Serbian Film are a few that immediately came to mind. Movies that barely made it past the censorship board and make you hate humanity just a little bit. Movies that you secretly love but that you would never watch with a date. Movies that you can tell the director and production put a lot of heart and love into it. I'm looking for dark, depraved movies that are still really well-done and have three-dimensional characters and a decent/good plot.
